Dog mess is the most unacceptable and offensive type of litter on our streets
Dog fouling is not only deeply unpleasant, it is dangerous – contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis – a nasty infection that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures.
While most dog owners are caring, responsible individuals, there are still some people who do not clean up after their pets. The problem of people not picking up after their dogs has increased recently.
We understand that the fields are currently very muddy and many are walking through the village more to keep clean, BUT – Pavements, grass verges and footpaths are NOT acceptable places to leave dog poo!
Anyone who fails to clear up after their dog can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £100. If the case goes to court this could cost the owner or person in charge of the animal up to £1,000. If you see someone allowing their dog to poo and not clearing it up, report them to the dog warden – if possible with photographic evidence. The Parish Council will not be afraid of naming and shaming offenders!
The law states that being unaware a dog has fouled or not having a suitable bag is not a reasonable excuse.
Any public bin can take the waste. There is no excuse to leave it.
Lighthorne has 5 public bins around the village – on The Green, Bishops Hill, Old School Lane, Moreton Morrell Lane and at the entrance to The Pavilion car park. You are never more than 2 mins away from a bin in the village – there is NO excuse.
